Varsity Football Coach Phil Hughes
ANAHEIM, CA – November 10, 2025 – Canyon High School announced that Phil Hughes has
resigned from his position as Head Varsity Football Coach. Coach Hughes steps down to
dedicate more time to his family. Coach Hughes led the Canyon High School football program
for four seasons, compiling an overall record of 17 wins and 25 losses. His best season was in
2022 when the team went 9 – 3 and advanced to the second round of the C.I.F. playoffs. The
nine wins tied the school record for most wins in a season.
Brent McKee, Principal of Canyon High School, shared his appreciation, stating, “We thank
Coach Hughes for his four years of dedication and hard work. We fully support his decision to
prioritize his family and wish him the absolute best in his future endeavors.”
Canyon High School will immediately begin a comprehensive search process to find the next
